Waiting for SpringWe've past the midpoint of February and can finally start thinking about springtime.
At Holy Moly farm, that means three things: - Bessie going off to be bred
to Rainman;
- Mist's foal, due in early May;
- Building our "classroom"!
With two young colts and an out-of-practice
gelding on our hands, not to mention Mist's foal coming along, our next big project is to build a training classroom.
We've worked them as best we can in our corral and occasionally in the ring at Photo Finish, but it's time we had
our own space. Mark is studying the training methods presented by GaWaNi PonyBoy and refining his own philosophy of how to
handle horses, especially young ones, building on everything we learn in our day-to-day routine about young horses in general
and these horses in particular, with an eye toward bringing them along in such a way that a) anyone can handle them easily
and b) but it's clear that he can't develop these horses without a ring. So we've picked our spot, contemplated
what we want and how to get it, and when the weather improves... if it EVER improves (is this the snowiest Maine winter evah,
or what?)... we will begin construction.
